DESCRIPTION
This project will use a conservation easement to conserve approximately21 acres of forest that contains around 1,300 feet of Minter Creek, as wellas 1,900 feet of two tributaries to Minter Creek that were recently mappedby Wild Fish Conservancy. This project will safeguard intact and fullyfunctioning stream habitat important for salmonids, including coho andchum salmon as well as Endangered Species Act listed (threatened)Puget Sound steelhead trout. Additionally, 2,500 feet downstream of theproject site, Minter Creek supports runs of Endangered Species Act listed(threatened) Puget Sound chinook salmon.Great Peninsula Conservancy intends to use the conservation easementto impose land use restrictions on the property which safeguard criticalhabitat like Minter Creek, its tributaries, wetlands, and wooded areas, andensure that no activities occur that would have a detrimental effect on thiscritical habitat for salmon and other wildlife. This easement will reflect thelandowner's goal to ensure the highest level of protection for their propertyinto the future, and will prohibit subdivision, residential development,mining, or any other commercial or private use that would have a negativeimpact on salmon and other wildlife, water quality, or the scenic characterof the easement area.
